COACH MIKE REYES

The focus is not only to help the athletes achieve their individual goals on the field, but to guide the athletes on the right path to a successful education. We stick to our mission and we make sure we prepare the athletes for the next level. Whether the athlete’s goal is to make it to an NJCAA soccer program, to an NAIA soccer program or to an NCAA soccer program, we will fight through the process together.

Born and raised in Miami, by Chilean descent, Mike Reyes played on an array of club teams including Miami Springs, Strike Force and Davie United. Aside from playing on the Universidad Catolica Miami adult team at the young (and possibly ineligible) age of 15 from 1999 to 2002, he committed himself to the Varsity team at his high school, Miami Coral Park Senior High under Manny Rodriguez, starting his freshman year. Mike started to really blossom in his junior year when he netted 25 goals which garnered First-Team All-Dade honors. His hard work paid off his senior year when he was bestowed the position of captain and finished his high school career in 2002 with a 60-25-11 record.

After high school, Mike traveled back to his motherland, Chile, being invited to join Club Deportivo de La Serena. After an intense preseason with the professional team, Mike decided to put his professional career aside to pursue an education. Mike accepted a full athletic scholarship to the third standing soccer program in the NJCAA, East Central College, in 2004 where he led his team as the top scorer as they became Region XVI Champions. As the newly dubbed captain, Mike led ECC to become Midwest Community College Athletic Conference Champions in 2005. In December 2005, Mike graduated with his Associate’s Degree along with awards of First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-Region as a center back.

Another full athletic scholarship allowed Reyes to join the NCAA Division 1 soccer program at Oakland University. Two years at OU resulted in a Bachelor’s Degree among many soccer awards. In 2007, the OU Golden Grizzlies finished as The Summit League Regular Season Champions and the Summit League Tournament Champs. Mike's leadership and high-scoring influence earned him Summit League First-Team All-Tournament honors and the Summit League Tournament MVP. He finished his college career against Notre Dame in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. With a Bachelor’s in hand, Mike pursued his professional soccer career at Club Deportivo River Plate Ponce within the Puerto Rico Soccer League in 2008. In his first year, Mike led the team to the finals as the leading goal scorer with 13 goals. During his offseason, he volunteered his time as assistant coach for his Alma Mater, Oakland University. As an assistant coach, Mike realized the effect he could have on future soccer players and began experimenting with recruitment. By 2010, he had facilitated the enrollment of seven student-athletes in college programs, all sharing the same hometown of Miami.

Combining his lifetime passion of soccer and his yearning to give back to the community where he grew up, Mike realized he could fulfill both motivations by starting his own college soccer prep program to advance individuals’ level of soccer while opening up opportunities for their future education. This was the start of College Dreamers, a developmental program that specializes and improves student-athletes who wish to pursue both their soccer and education careers.
